Babymoon
Sara: This past weekend, Justin and I went on a “babymoon.” A babymoon is when expectant parents take one last trip with just the two of them before Baby comes. Initially, we had hoped to go to one of the big cities, each about 3-4 hours away. As the time got closer, we realized we’d like to stay closer to home (and the hospital), and picked a smaller destination about two hours away.
I don’t think Justin or I realized how overdue for a vacation we were. Ever since we found out we were pregnant, we’ve spent most of our “free time” buying a house, recovering from a long work week, and taking care of the house. I’ve also been concentrating on preparing the house for baby, including our nursery and Justin on the big paint job. It’s been a long time since we’ve had so much purposeful time just to be together.
During our three day weekend, we really didn’t do much. We saw the state capital building, caught a dinner theater play, went to a museum or two, and listened to a classical concert. Other than that, we mostly rested and relaxed. At nearly 35 weeks pregnant, it was definitely my kind of vacation!
I think our babymoon really taught me that I need to place our marriage first in the priority list. It’s been easy for me to take Justin and all his hard work and sacrifices for me and baby for granted. Despite the busyness of our schedules, Justin and I need to determine how we can make time for each other in the midst of it all.
I also need to do a better job of keeping holy the Sabbath. We need to set aside Sunday, as much as possible, as family time. Many times, while we’re not working at our jobs, we use Sunday as a time to catch up on laundry, clean up the house, and do other tasks that don’t necessarily happen during our busy week. We need to do a better job of purposely relaxing when it’s time to relax so we can more fully concentrate on work when we are working.
It was pretty hard to come back Sunday afternoon, and then go back to work on Monday morning. We then had a lot to do this week – painting to finish, preparing for company, and more. It was back to the “real world” pretty quickly. However, hopefully our little babymoon will help us remember to put each other – and our marriage – first after Baby Kraft’s arrival.
